Families Preparing the New Generation

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Families Preparing the New Generation (FPNG) FAQs

FPNG addresses eight core parenting topics:

  • Family values, rules, and traditions

  • Adolescent development and social pressures

  • Effective communication and conflict resolution

  • Support, supervision, and healthy boundaries

  • Positive behavior management

  • Preventing risky behaviors, including substance use

  • Family and community support systems

These topics help parents strengthen communication, reinforce cultural identity, and build confidence while supporting youth who may be navigating bicultural environments, school expectations, and exposure to risk.

FPNG can be delivered by trained facilitators, including community members, school social workers, school psychologists, guidance counselors, community health workers, and other professionals working in the community.

Schools and organizations typically provide:

  • A meeting space (classroom, library, or parent center)
  • Basic materials (tables and chairs, projector; pens/markets, name tags, flipcharts, copy of handouts)
  • A staff point of contact for logistics and communication
  • Optional childcare or youth activities to encourage participation
