Gambling and Migration: Research and Community Outreach in Nigeria

The Global Center for Applied Health Research, in partnership with United Initiative for a Drug Free Nigeria, is leading a research project titled Exploring the Nexus of Gambling in Irregular Migration: A Study of Nigerian Returned Migrants, funded by the Bristol Hub for Gambling Harms Research at the University of Bristol through the Seedcorn Innovation Fund. As part of this work, the project is sharing findings through both academic and community-based dissemination efforts.

To ensure the findings also reach communities and practitioners, Daniel Ikenna Molobe, Co-Investigator and Director at the United Initiative for a Drug Free Nigeria, facilitated a presentation with the Edo State Migration Agency (EDMA) in Nigeria on January 28, 2026. The session shared an overview of the study and practical recommendations for preventing and addressing gambling-related harms among individuals with irregular migration experiences. Community flyers were also shared for dissemination through EDMA’s outreach programs, with continued in-person and online distribution underway.
